Laurel Aitken, the legendary Godfather of Ska, has also got a spanish album on his wide discography. He sadly passed away on July 17th. of 2005 and this one is his only spanish album on his long career.Laurel was born in Cuba in 1925, but emigrated to Jamaica at the age of eight years old, he could speak perfect spanish and this was a really long awaited recording, a project he was planing for decades. The title just mean In Spanish, you can find on this album classic spanish, in bluebeat style, like Perfidia, Quizas Quizas or La Paloma, but also a few Laurel Aitken hits sung in spanish for the very first time. At the age of 72 years old Laurel teached some good lessons to the long stablished spanish bands of how can reggae and ska been interpretated in spanish that naturally.The album was recorded with one of the best ever spanish ska band: Los Skarlatines, with whom Laurel toured extensively trhough Europe, speacialy in Spain, of course.

Laural Aitken, the man that puts Boogie in your Bones, has rocked the world with his inspired music from the late fifties on. A part of his historic work has been documented by the Grover Record releases "The Pama Years" and "The Long Hot Summer". This is part 3 in this documentary and it features a number of his singles, released in the bracket from 1963 to 1966 on British Record labels. This compilation was originally released in the early 90's, but this re-issue contains new artwork and the vinyl version contains all 21 tracks from the CD.

As the sixties came to a close, Laurel Aitken was firmly established as Britian's favourite Jamaican performer, enormously popular with members of both the country's West Indian ex-pat communities and its rapidly growing Reggae-loving Skinhead population. Unsurprisingly, competition to gain rights to his works among the country's leading Jamaican music companies was fierce and often bitter, so when, early in 69, Pama Records acquired his signature, the achievement was rightly regarded as a major coup by the London-based operation. Over the weeks that immediately followed, Laurel duly provided Pama with a number of best-selling singles, and while single artist compilations by Jamaican artists were still considered a rarity, such was the demand for the singer's music the company wasted little time in issuing a long-playing collection: Scandal In Brixton Market. Featuring a handful of previously released sides along with seven recordings exclusive to the collection, the LP also featured guest appearances from two of the UK's most popular Jamaican acts, Girlie and celebrated trombonist, Rico Rodriquez. A must-have collection for all Reggae fans, Scandal In Brixton Market quickly sold out at stores the length and breadth of the country, and over the years that have followed it has become increasingly scarce. It is therefore with great pleasure that some 45+ years after its original release, Radiation Reissues is able to present it again on vinyl.

Ska with Laurel tells the story of Ska legend, Laurel Aitken. A major force within Ska music, Laurel was a hugely influential figure in the development of new Jamaican musical styles in the 1950s and 60s. He played a key role in bringing these genres to popularity in England. Laurel Aitken lived in the heart of Leicester for 35 years and made a huge contribution to the cultural life of the city, inspiring and helping hundreds of young musicians. Dubbed by Gaz Mayall as The Godfather of Ska, Laurel moved to England from Jamaica in the early 1960s, releasing records on the Blue Beat label. Proving popular with the Mods and Skinheads in the 1960s and 70s, Laurels music also influenced the Two Tone sound of the early 1980s, in particular with bands such as The Specials and Bad Manners. The exhibition, which will include audiovisual material, stage clothes, photographs, posters and press cuttings, celebrates the life and work of Laurel Aitken, a pioneer of Ska music and one of the first musicians to popularise Jamaican music in the UK.

By 1970, Laurel Aitken was well and truly established as the Father of British Reggae, having dominated the country's Jamaican music scene since his arrival at the start of the '60s.
