Friends, and thats what we are in this musical family in search of honest songs sung by honest singers backed by honest musicians. The Country Side of Harmonica Sam are honestly that REAL HONEST MUSIC. I first became aware of them through the nominations for Honky Tonk Band for The Ameripolitan Awards. I loved their music from the get go, but the awards are only for Ameripolitan fans to decide. Well, they agreed with me and now the band is certainly a major part of the Ameripolitan Family, Original Music with Prominent Roots Influence. Harmonica Sams vocals on True Lies are reminiscent of Webb Pierce crossed with Wynn Stewart. The band is tight and confident and settle around Sams vocals like warm whiskey. Their originals are such natural progressions, drawn directly from their musical influences, yet obviously make their own individual sound and style. Thats HONEST. This album, the latest collection of Honky-Tonk masterpieces by this generations finest practitioners of the genre, is appropriately titled Broken Bottle, Broken Heart. Indeed, it was with both a bottle and a broken heart that I first sat down in my favorite chair to listen to these 14 songs of love and loss. Now, Ill be the first to tell you that it isnt always the best idea to mix heartache with alcohol while listening to real country music like this - the kind that once drifted out of car radios on back roads, blared out of jukeboxes, and echoed through dancehalls and Honky-Tonks across the U.S.A. Hell, that combination can be downright dangerous to the brokenhearted. But that midnight while taking a drink, closing my eyes, and getting lost in the music contained in the grooves of this LP, I was transported. I was taken away to another place, another time. It was as if my troubles were lifted, floating off into the horizon with the drifting sound of the steel guitar and soaring vocals. Visions of spit shined boots two-stepping across a well-worn dancefloor on a long-gone Saturday night swirled through my mind, with the twang of the guitar and the shuffling rhythms taking my blues away. Maybe it was the tequila talking... but I suspect that it was the music at work - the kind of real Country Music that I think these Swedish gentlemen are the very best at.Big Sandy

"A couple years ago, I was touring in Europe when we played a really unusual gig. We had been told we would be playing in Malmo, Sweden-a pretty big city-but when we got to the gig, it was on a farm an hour or more outside of town. This was the middle of nowhere!The place was called "The Barn" and they had concerts there with a band playing on an old flatbed truck. The owner also owned a herd of American Buffalo that he kept in the next field over. There were various industrial and farm vehicles everywhere, and we were shown an old school bus where we were supposed to sleep. Wow, this was the country, man! And when the sun went down, all these Swedish hillbillies started showing up.It was in this setting that I first saw an amazing band who opened up for us that night. They were called "The Country Side Of Harmonica Sam." Wow! They were amazing! They totally knocked me out. Here in this perfect atmosphere, "The Country Side Of Harmonica Sam" played late 1950s and early 1960s honky-tonk country like we had been transported in a magic time machine. They were great! They played and I could swear if I closed my eyes I was listening to George Jones, Faron Young, or Lefty Frizzell. I was totally blown away.I had seen Harmonica Sam play in other settings, and hes a great blues harmonica player and entertainer in his own right, playing with bands like the Domestic Bumblebees and other blues groups in Sweden. But he sure has this "country side" of him-what a great singer and front man. You would never guess that he was also a blues man, when he sings this stuff you could swear he grew up on a farm in Arkansas and ate biscuits and gravy every morning. The "Country Side" of Sam is a major talent.Now "The Country Side Of Harmonica Sam" and his great band have recorded this album. I think its fantastic, and I think you will, too. If you like the idea of getting in a time machine and landing in Nashville, Tennessee in 1959, then you need this album! You wont be disappointed!"
